"Beautiful Scaffolds"
New York, NY
Lane Lines

"Beaux echafaudages [beautiful scaffolds]," exclaimed the French artist Jean Charlot (1898 – 1979) on his first visit to New York City in 1928. Indeed the grandeur and complexity of these structures are an apt metaphor for the ambition and daring of a great city. To me they are the music of the Metropolis, a visual cacophony characteristic of a dense and vibrant urban environment.
